The Department of Food Science & Technology is governed by the General Assembly and the President/Vice President.
The Assembly of the Department consists of all the Faculty members of the Department and one representative, per category, of the members of the Special Educational Staff (EEP), the members of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (EDIP) and the members of the Special Technical Laboratory Staff (ETEP), as well as a representative of the Department’s students.

Responsibilities of the Assemply
According to article 33 of law 4957/2022, the administrative body of the Department of Food Science & Technology has, among others, the following responsibilities:
- sets the general educational and research policy of the Department and course of its development, in the context of the policy of the School of Agriculture and University of Patras
- prepares the departmental curriculum
- awards the degrees of the study programmes organized by the Department
- distributes the teaching work to university teachers for the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate courses
- assigns independent teaching work to Laboratory Teaching Staff, Special Education Staff and Technician members according to what is laid down in the relevant provisions
- approves the distributed textbooks for each course of the departmental curriculum
- suggests to the Dean of the School the organization of delivery of the common courses of the Department with other Departments of the same or another School
- suggests to the Rector an announcement of a call for academic positions of faculty members and exercises the responsibilities provided by law during the process of judging faculty members as well as Laboratory Teaching Staff, Special Education Staff and Technician members.
- compiles and updates the registers of internal and external members, which are kept for the procedures of election, development, permanence and renewal term of office of faculty members, which is then submitted to the Senate for approval
- announces positions of special teaching staff, composes selection committees and coordinates recruitment
- allocates funds to educational, research and other activities of the Department
- sets up committees to study or address specific issues that fall within its remit
- advises on the relocation of faculty members to the department or other departments
Responsibilities of Chairman / Vice Chairman
According to article 33 of law 4957/2022, the Chair of the Department of Food Science & Technology has, among others, the following responsibilities:
- represents the Department in the Senate, having to inform the Assembly about the discussions and its decisions
- chairs the services of the Department and supervises its smooth operation and compliance with the laws, the organization and the rules of procedure
- convenes the Assembly of the Department, prepares the agenda, assigns a member of the assembly as the rapporteur for the issues under discussion, chairs its work, suggests matters for discussion when no other member of academic staff has been appointed as a rapporteur and ensures the execution of its decisions
- ensures the implementation of the curriculum and other educational activities in the Department
- forwards opinions, proposals or suggestions made by the Assembly of the Department to the bodies provided by law
- sets up committees to study or address specific issues relevant to the Department
- prepares an annual report on the activities of the Department and forwards it to Deanery
- sets up teams for the internal evaluation of the Department
