The studies in the Department of Food Science & Technology last for five academic years, i.e., 10 semesters. The educational work of each academic year begins on the 1st of September and ends on the 31st of August of the following year. The educational work in each academic year is structured in winter and spring semesters, each of which includes at least thirteen full weeks for teaching and laboratory exercises. Of the ten total semesters, five (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th) are considered to be Winter ones and the other five (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th) are considered to be Spring ones.
The first 9 semesters are dedicated to courses, while the 10th semester is dedicated to the preparation of the dissertation, which is mandatory for all students. The attendance and successful examination of both the compulsory courses available in the departmental curriculum and the elective courses that the student chooses according to his/her interest is a condition for obtaining the degree. The registration of students in each semester is mandatory and is completed at the Secretariat of the Department
Most courses taught in each semester usually provide three hours of theoretical instruction and two hours of laboratory exercises or tutoring per week. Attendance of laboratory exercises and tutoring is mandatory for students and no more absences than 1/5 of their planned number are allowed.
