The basic goal of the Department of Food Science & Technology is the training of scientists who will contribute to the development of quality foods, with high nutritional value, attractiveness and safety for consumers, and who will be able to occupy high-ranking jobs both in Greece and abroad.
In order to achieve the above objectives, a special 5-year undergraduate program was designed which in the future is expected to lead to the awarding of the title of Integrated Master Level 7 to its graduates, taking into account the most modern educational requirements at an international level, and adopting modern and innovative practices in both the theoretical and laboratory training of its students.
The purpose of the undergraduate program is to offer students comprehensive and interdisciplinary knowledge through interaction with other sciences such as chemistry, microbiology, food production and processing, but also entrepreneurship, in the context of the interface between the University and productive entities.
The undergraduate program of the Department is structured in such a way that in the first semesters the student receives the basic knowledge she/he will need for the deepening and specialization that will follow in the next semesters of the undergraduate program.
Thus, up to the 5th semester, the undergraduate program consists only of compulsory courses. In the 6th semester and up to the 9th, elective courses start to be available, while the 10th semester is dedicated to the preparation of the thesis. Each course corresponds to a number of credits (ECTS). Total ECTS credits in each semester should be exactly 30.
